Over the last 6 months however, I've lost the taste for Gus. I find it very hard to stomach them, and it's been a challenge trying to consume them during workouts. I've tried washing them down with water, tried different flavors and alternate brands but those have not worked as well. I switched to the jelly beans and the shot blocks - which have been good, but those just dont produce as much energy and are also quite cumbersome to carry along for a run. Gu packets - I can just pin on to my shorts!
When I'm out on the course for 4-5 hours, I really need energy replenishments. Otherwise, I tire easily. I carry gatorade or salt tablets typically to help with electrolyte replacements, but I am not sure what to do now about carb replacements. Any suggestions folks??
I'm all Gu-ed out and my race is just 3 weeks away!! :(

I am a newbie to this whole thing, everything I know is from you! Haha! IN my little experience- I too don't like the taste of GU. But at a water stop I just wash it down with water/gatorade. It appears that you have already tried this! :(
well i have always depended on PowerBar gels especially the tangerine and green apple flavors ... you can't beat the zesty taste and if i am really feeling sleepy, i usually go for the coffee flavored ones.... you can check them out here ... http://www.powerbar.com.sg/products_gel.html
I think I'm just currently hating all sorts of gels - regardless of brands and flavors! Guess I'll just have to suck it up (no pun intended) and consume those things!
You can be like my hubby and carry peanut laddoos! I kid you not! He hates Gu too, and prefers real food.
Bottled bananas
When i served in the army and we needed to go those all nite route marches, we usually bring along enuff mini snickers bars and red bull .... u could try the same ... snickers bars are great for quick energy .....
It's just highly inconvenient to carry real food unfortunately - otherwise I would happily do that! :)
And G...haha...I need the H2O in my water bottle...no space for a banana! :p
I know you said you don't want more Gu, but I tried Stingers (from REI) and they aren't bad. They're honey-based, so if you like honey, they're awesome. :-) I've had the plain and the strawberry, both with good results.
I got sick of Gu after a long run 2 weeks ago. Now, I'm searching for a replacement. Keep me updated on your search!
